Microsoft’s M12 Venture Fund Chief Nagraj Kashyap Departs for SoftBank

Nagraj Kashyap, the global head of Microsoft’s M12 venture fund, has taken a new job at SoftBank’s Vision Fund as managing partner. Bloomberg first reported on his departure Monday.

Kashyap joined Microsoft in 2016 after spending 12 years leading Qualcomm Ventures. As a corporate vice president he helped launch M12 — previously known as Microsoft Ventures — and grow the investment arm, which has backed more than 95 early-stage B2B startups, 14 of which have exited.

Kashyap is based in San Francisco where M12 has an office, in addition to outposts in Seattle, London, Tel Aviv, and Bengaluru. He is also a board member at the National Venture Capital Association.

SoftBank reported a record $8 billion in quarterly profits for its $100 billion Vision Fund on Monday. The fund includes investments in giants such as Uber, Opendoor, and DoorDash.

We’ve reached out to Microsoft for comment and will update this story when we hear back.
